Information about the Satellite
Oceanography Data Laboratory
The core of the laboratory are L-Band
and X-Band ground stations and a cluster of Linux
workstations hosting a comprehensive suite of digital
image processing and GIS software and peripherals. The
Ground Station is capable of tracking and receiving High
Resolution Picture Transmissions (HRPT) from the NOAA
satellite constellation, MODIS telemetry from Aqua
and Terra and OCM telemetry from IRS-P4. The resulting
data volume is approximately 10 GByte per day.
The Lab is part of The University
of Maine Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing
Applications. A cross-disciplinary initiative
funded by the University of Maine and NASA's MISSION to
PLANET EARTH
